  1. Fish Oil supplements are efficacious for the treatment of elevated blood triglycerides, stabilization of electrical conductivity of the heart after a heart attack, prevention of cardiac arrythmias and for prevention of cardiovascular disease in healthy persons.
  2. Prescription supplements are preferred over over the counter brands because their potency is greater and is standardized.
  3. Authorities agree that natural sources of the omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) are preferable to the synthetic variants purchased with or without a prescription.
  4. Krill oil is also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.
  5. Best natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids are:
  • Deep cold water fish such as wild salmon, herring, mackerel, shad, lake trout, sardines and anchovies.
  • Flaxseed oil and meal, flaxseeds, hempseed and hempseed oil, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and brazil nuts.
  • Avocados
  • Certain dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, purslane, mustard greens and collards.
